- This is a minimally invasive procedure done for osteoporotic fractures. A needle is inserted into the damaged vertebral body under x-ray control. Then special bone cement is injected into the bone to harden it up (Vertebroplasty). Sometimes, before injecting the cement, a cavity is created by inflating a small balloon (Kyphoplasty). This procedure is also done for metastasis to the spine. Some patients might require percutaneous screws along with cement augmentation.
