- This is a surgery done for scoliosis, which is a condition in which the spine is curved instead of being straight. It is done via an incision made over the back. Screws are inserted in the involved vertebral bones. Then a rod is used to connect these screws together in such a way that the curvature is reduced to achieve a balanced and symmetrical body shape. These surgeries are done more commonly in children, however, sometimes, older adults also may require this surgery.
