- This is a minimally invasive procedure used to relieve the pressure on the nerve roots caused by bone spurs and arthritis in a condition involving the lower back called lumbar canal stenosis. Using the smallest possible incision (less than one inch), a small tube is placed directly over the diseased area. A microscope or endoscope is then used to remove the excess bone spurs and thickened ligaments around the nerve roots, thus relieving pressure and pain. Sometimes, multiple levels of stenosis can be relieved by shifting and repositioning the tube. Most patients will be able to go home within 24 hours and resume the usual level of activity in a few weeks.
